On 29 December 2015, the first customs controlled road corridor between the Port of Ravenna and the Interporto Bologna was commenced: a fast corridor which allows to simplify customs clearance procedures, speed up the transfer of goods in transit between the two poles and, through the use of “eSeals” electronic seals, ensure their traceability.

This establishes, also in the Adriatic Sea,  the so-called “Controlled corridor” that allows operators to request “the electronic customs clearance in domiciled procedure for incoming goods by sea and the transfer of containers to be subjected to physical verification at authorized places external to the port area, through a corridor controlled by the National Logistics Platform”.

The procedure requires the simultaneous presence of the following conditions: the goods must be packed in containers; the contract of carriage must be unique and include the leg covered by the controlled Corridor; the vehicle on which the goods are traveling must be checked by the National Logistics Platform, and the economic operators who are managing the temporary storage must use a specific program implementing the procedure (named “Colloquio T. C.“).

The creation of the fast corridor preludes to multiple benefits, among which: allowing the decongestion of port areas; reducing the stay of the containers at the port, resulting in cost savings; reduction of travel times; greater safety, thanks to the combination of documentary checks and physical monitoring of the flow of goods and, finally, the possibility for companies to integrate customs formalities with their Company logistic processes.
