On 16th August Prof. Stefano Zunarelli, founding partner of Zunarelli B&T International Law Firm, visited Beijing to seal a strategic cooperation agreement, called “Hua Mao Alliance”, with some of the most important Chinese professional and academic personalities.

The cooperation agreement was signed at the end of a day of conferences. The conferences were attended by the Law Firms who signed the agreement, as well as by judges, representatives of the various bar associations and members of the Chinese government authorities.

The promoter of this initiative is Prof. Shen Sibao, who is the former Dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing and of the Shanghai University, as well as consultant to the Supreme People’s Court and a leading figure in the world of the legal profession in China. Together with Prof. Zunarelli, they had already considered the possibility of giving birth to a close collaboration during the meeting of the representatives of the World Law Schools Summit, held in Paris, in which Prof. Zunarelli participated as representative of the Faculty of Law of the University of Bologna.

The signing of the agreement determines the entry of Zunarelli –the only non-Chinese law firm involved in the operation– into the  prestigious Hua Mao Alliance.

Prof. Shen Sibao’s invitation to participate in the cooperation represents a further confirmation of the recognized operational capacity of Zunarelli B&T International Law Firm who, since 2007 -date of the opening of its office in Shanghai- has been able to offer a wide range of legal services in the geographic areas of the Far East and especially in China.

As provided by the by-laws governing the alliance, several Committees will be established (Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Committee; Overseas Investment Committee; International Trading Committee; IP Committee; Government by Law & Administrative Law Committee etc.). The Committees will be composed of members of different Law Firms, so as to ensure the highest quality standards in the handling of cases relating to any area of Chinese and International law, both in court and out of court.

For many years now, Prof. Zunarelli has been keeping constant relations with the major components of the legal, institutional and governmental entities in China. He has also given lectures of maritime law in some of China’s most prestigious Universities (such as the Shanghai University of Social Sciences), and is, hence, often asked to offer his advice within proceedings instituted before the various Chinese maritime Law Courts, as  maritime law expert. Because of the prestige he enjoys, Prof. Zunarelli will, therefore, be appointed chairman of the  Maritime Air and Inland Carriage Committee – soon to be established within the Huo Mao Alliance.
